Student Support Services is part of the Dean of Students Office, which is committed to providing students with disabilities equal opportunities to benefit from all services, programs, and activities offered. We are in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Director of Student Support Services determines eligibility for services, authorizes appropriate academic accommodations, provides academic advising and counseling, assists faculty with regard to disability, issues and questions, and helps assist students with self-advocacy in locating additional resources on or off campus.
Prior to the term, current documentation should be sent to the director for review.
Documentation requirements:
- measures student aptitude, achievement, and information processing
- has been conducted by an appropriate professional
- is current (often defined as no more than three years old)
- should include recommendations for accommodations to facilitate learning
Guidelines are specific for the following areas (see Student Handbook) (Faculty Handbook)
- Learning Disabilities/Attention Deficit Disorder
- Psychiatric
- Physical Disabilities
- Temporary Disability
During the first two weeks of classes:
- Complete the Academic Accommodations Request Form AND, if it is your first year, meet with the Director of Student Support Services to determine accommodations.
- Return within five days to the Dean of Students Office to pick up approved letters addressed to each of your professors.
- Schedule to meet with each of your professors immediately to provide the letter and explain your learning styles/strengths, as well as to work out the details of your accommodation(s).
Please see Shelly Shinebarger, Director of Student Support Services, should you have any difficulty finding campus resources or to resolve any questions or concerns.
